During his coaching career,
Gerardo Tata Martino achieved the greatest successes with Newell's Old Boys
Club and Paraguay team which led it to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World
Cup.
Gerardo Martino Daniel, known as
"Tata", 50 years ago was born in the Argentine city of Rosario. He began
his coaching career in 1998 after impressing as a player in the ranks of
Newell's Old Boys. The style of play is based on attacking football and
collective combinations and creative touches. Gerardo Advanced also pursuing a
pressure preferably starting attacks from the goalkeeper and puts his
confidence in the young players emerging from the training academy.
Tata began his journey in the
world of training with Brown de Arrecifes Club in the Argentine second
division. Then he took over the helm of Platense in the 1999-2000 seasons
before joining to Instituto team in the following season.
Impressive successes of
Gerardo Martino in Argentina and Paraguay
After a long vacation lasted a
whole year, Gerardo Martino moved to Paraguay where he won his first titles.
Libertad was the first club he managed in this country, achieving a shield with
the opening and closing tournaments in 2002. The following year, he returned to
win the inaugural tournament.
Then the giant coached Cerro
Porteno that led it to ascend the podium in 2003 and 2004. After a short
adventure at the head of the Department Colon de Santa Fe (Argentina), Tata
returned to the club Libertad to achieve new successes with it, and then
undertook the training of Paraguay, that brought him to the quarter-finals in
the 2010 World Cup, where they lost to Spain.
Then Martino led Paraguay team to
the final of the Copa America in 2011. After that experience in the continental
tournament, he joined Newell's Old Boys, which was struggling to avoid descend
to the second division in Argentina. Tata was able to save the city of Rosario
team from relegation but then led it to win the Clausura title in 2013 has also
recently brought it to the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores.
Offensive midfielder
Gerardo Martinez considered a
living legend in the club Newell's, where he began his career at the age of
seventeen. Note that he played with the
shirt of this team 505 games in total, Gerardo Tata Martino played as center
attacking midfielder. Marcelo Bielsa was his particularly inspiring. In
addition to Newell, Tata played in Tenerife (Spain), Lanus (Argentina),
O'Higgins (Chile) and Barcelona Guayaquil (Ecuador), before they retire in
1996.
