Carles Puyol Barcelona football team leader declared Thursday,
leaving the Catalan club after 15 years in the first team alone, as well as his
retirement from international football with Spain team, having won both titles
with them practically.
Puyol announced his departure in a packed news conference,
accompanied by former and current colleagues, and former coaches and current
and former heads of club, as well as former football Spanish team coaches such
as Jose Antonio Camacho and Iñaki Saiz, along with many of the symbols of the
world of the charming round in Spain.
Puyol said "an era is over, but for me the other eras
come, I hope i enjoy it as I enjoyed this," hoping to recover from
physical problems, with getting rid of the pressures that accompanied him as he
played at the highest professional level.
And recurrent injuries caused, which have increased in
frequency and more in recent years, to accelerate the departure of Puyol, who
had his contract with the Catalan club extends to June 2016.
Puyol (36 years) Participated in 593 official games with
Barcelona, the team that got with him 21 titles (six league titles, three
Champions League and two in the King's Cup, and two in the UEFA Super Cup, six
in the Spanish Super Cup, two in the Club World Championship ).
He also participated with the Spanish team in 100
international matches, in a career which has achieved many accomplishments,
most notably winning the World Cup in 2010 in South Africa and the European
Championship in 2008 in Switzerland and Austria, as well as the silver medal
during the Olympic Games in 2000 in Sydney.
